FIFA Slams Nepal with Immediate Suspension Over Governance Violations

25

Football’s global governing body, FIFA, has suspended the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) with immediate effect due to severe violations regarding third-party interference in its internal governance.

Effective from June 24, the blanket ban completely sidelines Nepalese football from the international stage, barring all national teams and local clubs from participating in any FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) sanctioned competitions until further notice.

Total Financial and Development Freeze

The repercussions of the suspension extend far beyond the pitch. Under the strict terms issued by FIFA, ANFA will face immediate isolation from global football infrastructure:

  • Financial Cutoff: Immediate loss of access to all FIFA and AFC funding channels.
  • Program Freezes: Forfeiture of ongoing and upcoming international development programmes.
  • Training Halts: Cancellation of specialized training opportunities for local players, coaches, and officials.

Path to Reinstatement

According to an official statement, FIFA made it clear that the suspension will remain firmly in place until ANFA can prove it has resolved the governance issues and eliminated outside interference. However, the governing body left the door open for a swift resolution, noting that the ban could be lifted ahead of the next FIFA Congress if all compliance conditions are fully met.
