Gauhati High Court to Hear Shyamkanu Mahanta’s Bail Plea on May 25
The Gauhati High Court will once again hear the bail application of Shyamkanu Mahanta on 25th May.
Mahanta’s bail plea was earlier rejected by the Fast Track Court. Following the rejection, his legal team approached the Gauhati High Court.
The matter was listed today before Justice Mitali Thakuria. During the hearing, Senior Advocate Pran Bora, appearing for Shyamkanu Mahanta, argued in favour of granting bail. The government side was represented by Advocate General Devajit Lon Saikia.
The government counsel sought time to present arguments against the bail plea. The High Court has accordingly fixed the next hearing for 25th May at 10:30 AM, when the state will argue its case opposing the bail.
This development comes after the Fast Track Court turned down Mahanta’s bail application, prompting him to move the High Court for relief.
