Governor’s Address Marks Second Day of 16th Assam Legislative Assembly Session

The second day of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly session began today with the traditional address by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.

Delivering his speech in Assamese, the Governor extended warm congratulations to all newly elected MLAs who won through the democratic process. He described the BJP’s victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections as historic.

Praising the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Governor Acharya said that development in Assam has gained significant momentum under his leadership. He noted that the pace of economic growth in the state is steadily rising and expressed confidence that Assam is on track to become one of the top five developed states in India.

Highlighting the achievements of the state government, the Governor lauded Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for his visionary leadership and stated that Assam has witnessed unprecedented progress in the last five years. He specially appreciated the successful implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the state.

The Governor urged the government to accord greater priority to the agriculture sector. He described Assam as the “Gateway to progress in Northeast India” and emphasised that the tea industry remains the backbone of the state’s economy. He also commended the government for securing and freeing satra lands from encroachment.

The Governor’s address set a positive and developmental tone for the ongoing session of the Assembly.
