The Assam Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department conducted a marathon 12-hour raid at the Beltola residence of senior ACS officer Lachit Kumar Das on Thursday.
During the intensive search operation, the Vigilance team seized ₹48,38,150 in cash, gold ornaments weighing approximately half a kilogram, and a large number of property documents along with details of several bank accounts.
According to initial findings, around ₹80 lakh is deposited in nine different bank accounts linked to Lachit Kumar Das and his family members. Multiple properties are reportedly registered in the names of his family members. The Vigilance Department is likely to register a separate case under the Prevention of Corruption Act for possession of assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
Lachit Kumar Das was arrested earlier while allegedly accepting a bribe for issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a land transaction. He had reportedly demanded ₹1 lakh and received ₹45,000 as an advance payment.
A senior officer who had served in various important departments and as Deputy Commissioner of two districts, Lachit Das is now facing serious allegations of large-scale corruption during his tenure.
He is scheduled to be produced before the court today, where the Vigilance Department is expected to seek his custody for further interrogation.
