Major Blow to International Drug Network: Notorious Myanmar Drug Lord ‘Chintuang’ Arrested by NCB

21

In a significant breakthrough, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested a top Myanmar-based drug mafia kingpin known as ‘Chintuang’ from Delhi.

Chintuang was one of the biggest drug suppliers operating along the India-Myanmar border. This is the second major Myanmar drug trafficker nabbed by NCB in 2026.

The syndicate was running a large drug trafficking network through the Myanmar–Mizoram–Manipur–Assam corridor and also supplying drugs to Bangladesh. The operation was reportedly worth over ₹115 crore.

During the operation, NCB also arrested two Assam-based drug operators — Abu Saleh from Cachar and Jabbarul from Karimganj. Abu Saleh was allegedly handling transportation and distribution of drugs in the Assam corridor.

A woman Hawala operator named Larampari was also arrested for facilitating financial transactions. NCB has uncovered Hawala dealings worth nearly ₹100 crore linked to the network.

The entire case has now been handed over to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for further investigation into the money laundering angle.

NCB’s Crackdown in Northeast:

  • In 2025, NCB registered 48 cases, arrested 116 drug traffickers, and seized drugs worth ₹665 crore in the Northeast.
  • In 2026 (till now), the agency has already registered 31 cases and arrested 54 persons.

This operation underscores NCB’s intensified and coordinated efforts against cross-border drug syndicates operating in India’s Northeast.
