Congress leader Pawan Khera, who was granted anticipatory bail by the Supreme Court on May 1, arrived in Guwahati from Delhi today and presented himself before the Crime Branch as per court directives.
Khera reached the Crime Branch office along with his lawyer and a family member. He is being questioned by senior officers, including the DCP of Crime Branch.
Pawan Khera faces serious allegations of spreading false information and defamatory content against Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma. The CM’s wife had filed an FIR against him at Panbazar Police Station.
The allegations include claims that the Sharma couple had opened companies abroad and invested money, and that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma possessed multiple passports. These claims were allegedly made with political motives during the recent Assembly elections.
The Supreme Court, while granting him anticipatory bail, had directed him to cooperate fully with the investigation.
Notably, the questioning of Pawan Khera began on the very first day of the new NDA government (HBS 2.0) in Assam.
The Crime Branch is continuing its probe into the matter.
