After a prolonged trial lasting over 8 years, the District & Sessions Court in Nagaon delivered its verdict on April 20 in the sensational Abhi-Neel murder case.
The court convicted 20 accused and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Each of the convicts was also fined ₹20,000.
Out of a total of 48 accused, 20 were found guilty, while 25 persons were acquitted and released. The remaining three accused are believed to be absconding or deceased.
The court recorded the statements of 71 witnesses during the trial proceedings.

The case had created significant outrage in the region at the time of the incident. The verdict has brought a sense of justice to the families of the victims after a long wait.
