Chief Secretary Takes Strict Action Over Guwahati’s Artificial Flooding

45

Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota has taken serious note of the artificial flooding situation in Guwahati following recent rains and has directed all concerned departments to be fully prepared to tackle such situations.

Expressing strong displeasure over the failure to manage the post-rain scenario, the Chief Secretary has asked officials to explain their lapses. He has also ordered a thorough inquiry into the death of a woman who fell into an open manhole in Maligaon.

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) claimed that the manhole cover had been washed away, but Chief Secretary Ravi Kota refused to accept this explanation and demanded proper accountability.

He has issued strict instructions to all departments to remain vigilant and take immediate preventive measures against artificial flooding. The Chief Secretary directed that pump sets should be kept ready on national highways during rainfall, and all open drains must be covered with lids at the earliest.

The administration is under pressure to prevent recurrence of such incidents that have been causing immense inconvenience to the citizens of Guwahati.
