3 Hours Before Death, Nana Patekar Texted Friend: ‘I’m Not Feeling Well’

Veteran actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar, 75, texted a friend around 2:30 am, nearly three hours before his death, saying that he was not feeling well, according to Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital, Goa.

As it was late at night, the friend reportedly missed the message. Patekar later called him, following which the friend reached his residence at around 4 am. By then, Patekar was sweating and gradually losing consciousness.

His caretaker was sent to the hospital to bring an ambulance and an emergency medical team. Patekar was shifted to Manipal Hospital around 4:20–4:30 am, where doctors immediately began cardiac massage and CPR.

Despite continued efforts for around 45 minutes to an hour, doctors could not revive him. He was declared dead at around 5:30 am.

The death has been registered as a medico-legal case, and his body has been shifted to Goa Medical College for a post-mortem examination.

Born Vishwanath Patekar in Maharashtra in 1951, Nana Patekar made his Hindi film debut with Gaman in 1978. He went on to deliver acclaimed performances in films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Salaam Bombay and Apaharan. He also holds the distinction of winning Filmfare Awards in all three major acting categories.
