US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Visit India, Focus on Energy Cooperation

7

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to visit India next week as part of his October 17–22 tour, with stops planned in Mumbai and Jamnagar. The visit aims to strengthen the US-India strategic partnership, boost energy cooperation and expand trade and investment ties.

During his visit, Rubio will meet senior Indian government officials and business leaders to discuss regional and global developments, energy partnerships and opportunities for greater commercial cooperation, the US State Department said.

His visit to Jamnagar is significant as the city houses Reliance Industries’ refinery, the world’s largest single-site refining complex, with a processing capacity of around 1.4 million barrels of crude oil per day.

This will be Rubio’s second visit to India since May, when he attended the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi hosted by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Before arriving in India, Rubio will visit Samarkand, Uzbekistan, to participate in the C5+1 Ministerial and hold bilateral talks with officials from five Central Asian countries.
