Trump On the Wrong Side Of History: Zelensky Slams US-Russia Diesel Deal

8

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has criticised US President Donald Trump over a reported diesel supply deal with Russia, warning that Washington risks siding with Moscow amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Speaking on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Zelenskyy said Trump had chosen “the wrong side” instead of maintaining a neutral position. He also questioned the advice being given to the US President, saying Ukraine was losing a strong strategic partner. Zelenskyy said “I think his advisers are wrong. I don’t know who is pushing him. Not to the right side; this is not the right side of history.”

The remarks followed Trump’s announcement of an arrangement with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Russia to supply more than 300,000 metric tonnes of diesel to global markets. Trump maintained that the deal was aimed at easing energy prices rather than supplying fuel directly to the United States.

Zelenskyy also accused Russia of violating a proposed energy ceasefire, alleging that Ukrainian forces had refrained from attacking energy infrastructure while Russian strikes continued. He said the attacks had left at least 600,000 people without electricity.

While describing an energy ceasefire as an imperfect but necessary step towards peace, Zelenskyy urged Washington to remain a strong partner for Kyiv as Ukraine struggles to protect its people and critical infrastructure.
According to research and intelligence reports Russia-Ukraine war show over 400,000 to 450,000 Russian military deaths and 125,000 to 150,000 Ukrainian military deaths, alongside more than 16,000 confirmed civilian deaths.
