Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has said that the state government has invested ₹1,178 crore in developing infrastructure across 213 government-run schools since 2018, with the aim of improving the quality of education.

Addressing a programme in Khowai district on Thursday, Saha said the government was focusing on strengthening the education sector through improved facilities, including tinkering laboratories, smart classrooms and computer education.

He also highlighted the expansion of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in the state. According to the Chief Minister, the Centre has sanctioned 21 such schools in Tripura, of which 12 are operational, while six more are expected to open shortly. Once all the sanctioned schools become functional, more than 10,000 tribal students will be able to access education in fully residential institutions.

Saha also outlined the government’s infrastructure development plans, stating that improvement work on two national highway stretches — Khowai–Teliamura and Teliamura–Harina — has begun at a cost of ₹275 crore.

Additionally, a World Bank-supported project will improve 107.86 kilometres of roads in the Tulashikar Rural Development block of Khowai district to strengthen rural connectivity.

Highlighting Tripura’s investment potential, Saha said the state’s ‘Destination Tripura: Business Conclave’ received investment proposals worth ₹1.32 lakh crore, reflecting growing interest in business and industrial opportunities in the northeastern state.
