Assam CM Inaugurates Sri Sri Madhabdev Kalakshetra and Launches Several Development Projects
On the occasion of the second anniversary of the Assam Government, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the newly constructed Sri Sri Madhabdev Kalakshetra in Narayanpur, Lakhimpur district. The Chief Minister also launched and laid the foundation for several new projects during the event.

The Kalakshetra, built at a cost of Rs 53.56 crore, spans 44.86 bighas and includes a museum, guest house, auditorium, Bhakatgriha, Namghar, Ata Griha, office complex, security office, car parking facilities, CCTV surveillance, music systems, a children’s park, an upgraded Manuscript Bhawan, an open-air theatre, Kalakrishti Kendra, Manikut, and the renovation of the Satradhikar’s residence.
After the inauguration, CM Sarma inspected the Kalakshetra’s facilities and offered prayers at the Namghar for the prosperity of Assam’s people. He also planted a Barhamthuri sapling and released fishlings into the pond within the complex.
Addressing a public meeting at the Narayanpur Higher Secondary School playground, Dr. Sarma spoke about the region’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage, mentioning that many founders of Assam’s prominent satras, such as Barpeta, Kamalabari, Auniati, and others, hailed from the area.
The Chief Minister highlighted the ancient history of Vaishnavism in India, emphasizing the significant contributions of Mahapurush Madhavdev in supporting Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev to strengthen the Bhakti movement in Assam. He noted that the collaboration of both spiritual leaders had a profound impact on Assam’s social, cultural, and intellectual landscape.
Dr. Sarma also announced plans for a sound and light show at Sri Sri Madhabdev Kalakshetra, focusing on the Bhakti movement and the life of Srimanta Sankardev and Madhavdev. He confirmed that work on the next phase of the Kalakshetra’s development will begin soon.
Reflecting on the second anniversary of the current state government, Dr. Sarma shared the government’s accomplishments, which include the inclusion of Bihu in the Guinness World Records, the celebration of Mahabir Lachit Barphukan’s 400th birth anniversary, the employment of nearly one lakh youth, the success of welfare schemes like Orunodoi, and the establishment of new medical colleges and AIIMS in Changsari.
The Chief Minister also announced the construction of Madhavdev University, which will be built on 55 bighas of land at a cost of Rs 60 crore. The total investment for the university’s construction, spanning two phases, will amount to Rs 150 crore.
Additionally, Dr. Sarma laid the foundation for several key projects, including the upgradation of the Polytechnic Institute’s workshop and technical laboratory in Bihpuria, the Gohpur-Ghagrabasti via Dhalpur road, a mini stadium at the Pisala Sports Association, and power substations at Harmati, Simaluguri, Bangalmara, and Bihpuria. He also inaugurated the Deuri Tribal Cultural Project, a multipurpose shelter home for flood victims, and several road development projects.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Bora, MP Pallab Lochan Das, MLA Dr. Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, and others.
