Sub-committee to be formed to prepare implementation framework of Assam Accord

Guwahati, September 7 (NKTV): A meeting held between Government of Assam led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and AASU representatives in Guwahati today decided to prepare an implementation framework to implement the provisions of Assam Accord with special reference to Clause 6,7, 9 and10.

It may be noted that in the meeting held in guest house 1 at Koinadhora, the AASU delegation submitted a memorandum containing several demands of the AASU to the Chief Minister.

The implementation framework would also incorporate the demand for updation of NRC, addressing flood and erosion problem, rehabilitation of martyrs’ and victims’ family of Assam Agitation. Moreover, the issues like problems faced by the people of Assam including provisions for all round development of the state have been discussed as part of implementation framework.  

The meeting decided to form a Sub-Committee consisting of representatives from Government of Assam and AASU. The Sub-Committee will formulate the implementation framework within three months for further deliberations. The meeting also acknowledged various demands of AASU and assured to fulfil the demands as featured in the memorandum submitted by the AASU to the Chief Minister.

Moreover, the meeting also decided to prepare an action plan consisting of three demands of the AASU viz. creating of a Chair in the name of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in Tezpur University, Guwahati University and Dibrugarh University, beautification of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samadhikshetra and incorporation of cultural values and teachings of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in the school curriculum.  Besides, with regard to other demands contained in the memorandum State government would approach and request the Central Government for their redressal.

Dass, Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta, Water Resources and I&PR Minister Pijush Hazarika, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan, MLA Padma Hazarika, Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah, Director General of Assam Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Additional Chief Secretaries of Assam Government  including senior officers, senior officials of B S F, AASU’s Chief Adviser, Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya, President Dipanka Kumar Nath, General Secretary Sankar Jyoti Baruah, Advisors Uddip Jyoti Gogoi, Prakash Ch. Das and others were present during the meeting.
