The poor condition of roads in Majuli has once again raised concerns over emergency healthcare and road connectivity after a pregnant woman reportedly gave birth inside a goods-carrying vehicle while being taken to hospital.
The incident reportedly occurred in the Lohit Khabalu–Jogibari area, where the woman’s family faced difficulties transporting her to a healthcare facility due to the severely damaged road.
With 108 ambulance services reportedly unavailable in the area at the time, the family was forced to use a goods vehicle to take the woman to the hospital. However, before reaching the hospital, she went into labour and delivered the baby inside the vehicle on the way.
The incident has triggered concerns over the availability of emergency ambulance services and healthcare facilities in remote parts of Majuli. Residents have reportedly been facing transportation difficulties for a long time due to the poor condition of roads in the area.
The incident has once again brought the challenges of road connectivity and emergency healthcare infrastructure in Majuli into focus.
