National Police Commemoration Day was observed today at the 10th Assam Police Battalion in Kahilipara to pay tribute to police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the programme and paid homage to the martyrs by offering floral tributes.
During the ceremony, 154 Assam Police personnel who laid down their lives while performing their duties were remembered with deep respect. The Assam Police honoured their courage, sacrifice and dedication to duty, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to protecting the public and maintaining peace and law and order in society.
Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21. On this day in 1959, ten personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were martyred in a surprise attack by Chinese troops while on patrol duty along the India-China border. The day is observed nationwide in memory of their supreme sacrifice.
The occasion serves as a reminder of the bravery and dedication of police personnel who sacrifice their lives for the safety and security of the nation and its people.
