Over 43.3 Cr Monthly Digital Transactions In India, Says FM Nirmala Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday praised India’s robust digital infrastructure and widespread access, crediting it with positioning India as a leader in digital transactions. Speaking at the Viksit Bharat 2047 Ambassador Campus Dialogue in Pallavaram, she highlighted that 43.3 crore transactions are conducted digitally each month in India, free of charge.

Sitharaman emphasized that India’s digital public infrastructure facilitates seamless transactions between sellers, buyers, and payment systems. She noted the country’s emergence as a hub for digital infrastructure, citing the production of mobile phones for both domestic use and export as a testament to the government’s efforts.

Finance Minister Sitharaman said “The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes have incentivised the industries to invest in thorium, solar energy and green hydrogen sector. India has also joined hand with other countries to make progress in the renewable energy sector and in the coming future India will become a leader in the renewable energy sector.”

Discussing the achievements of Indian startups, Sitharaman highlighted their expansion into the space sector, made possible by the government’s decision to open the space industry to private investment. She emphasized the government’s support for startups, including the allocation of Rs 1 lakh crore for science and research in the interim budget.

Sitharaman highlighted the indicators of the Viksit Bharat. She said that better infrastructure, modern schools and hospitals are the key indicators of Viksit Bharat. The FM said the focus of the Modi Government is to achieve Viksit Bharat goal through the development of infrastructure.
