Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday, during the first day of his two-day long visit to Jorhat district, attended the ceremonial distribution of “Orunodoi card” to beneficiaries of Orunodoi 2.0 in the upper Assam district. A total of 25,544 beneficiaries have made it to the list of Orunodoi 2.0 for Jorhat district. This is in addition to the 64,126 beneficiaries of Orunodoi 1.0, thus taking the total number of beneficiaries in Jorhat to 89,670.

Speaking at a public meeting correlating with the event, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said the Orunodoi scheme has contributed greatly towards strengthening of financial health of millions of families across the State. This apart, it has also proven to be a potent tool towards achievement of the goal of women empowerment, he said. Giving a break-up of the amount of Rs. 1,250 that is credited to the accounts of the beneficiaries, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said Rs. 400 is meant for health-related expenditure, Rs. 200 for purchase of daal, Rs. 80 for purchase of sugar, Rs. 150 for essential vegetables and fruits, Rs. 170 to provide financial relief to overcome Covid-created financial strains while Rs. 250 was for electricity consumption. He appealed to the beneficiaries to judiciously use the amount of Rs. 1250 that is credited to their accounts every month.

Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said apart from taking measures for empowerment of the womenfolk of the State, steps are being taken to ensure overall uplift of all sections of people of Assam. Providing permanent employment under the payroll of the Government of Assam to as many as 90,000 youths, construction of medical colleges and other institutes of higher learning across the State, to name a few, are manifestation of the current dispensation’s commitments towards the residents of the State, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said. He further said the government shall be issuing advertisements for recruitment to another 22,000 vacancies under the State government.

At the event, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma ceremonially launched the “Sanchay Lakshmi” initiative.

Prior to this event, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma formally inaugurated North-east India’s first-ever “High Performance Sports Training & Rehabilitation Centre” at the premises of the Jorhat Stadium. It has been built at a cost of Rs. 23.74 crores.

Chief Minister Dr. Sarma today also handed over an amount of Rs. 10 crore for Toklai Tea Research Centre and Rs. 3 crore for Konoklota Mahila Urban Co-operative Bank’s corpus fund.

Chief Minister Dr. Sarma later paid a visit to the Lachit Moidam at Hollongapar in Jorhat and took stock of the progresses related to the scheduled installation of a statue of the great Ahom Army commander in February.

Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, Members of Parliament Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and Tapan Gogoi, Members of Legislative Assembly Hitendra Nath Goswami, Bhabendra Nath Bharali, Rupjyoti Kurmi, along with a host of other dignitaries were seen accompanying the Chief Minister on Thursday.
