Indian Women’s Hockey Team Reaches Asian Games 2026 Semifinals
The Indian women’s hockey team has secured a place in the semifinals of the Asian Games 2026. India defeated hosts Japan 3-1 in a crucial Pool B match held on Friday at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium.
Lalremsiami scored for India in the 5th minute, followed by Ishika Chaudhary in the 30th minute and Navneet Kaur in the 36th minute. Japan pulled one goal back through Shiho Kobayakawa in the 46th minute.
With this victory, India maintained a perfect record in Pool B, winning all four of their matches and securing the top spot with 12 points. The result also confirmed India’s place among the top two teams in the pool and secured their semifinal berth.
Japan are currently second in Pool B with nine points from four matches. India will play their final pool-stage match against Singapore on Sunday.
The hockey competition at the Asian Games 2026 is also crucial for qualification for the LA 2028 Olympics. The gold medallist at the Asian Games will earn direct qualification for the Olympics.
