India Downs 600+ Pakistani Drones in Massive Air Defence Push

57

In a major show of defensive strength, the Indian armed forces intercepted and neutralized over 600 Pakistani drones during Operation Sindoor, launched in response to Pakistan’s drone incursions following India’s targeted strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

To counter the wave of drone attacks aimed at Indian cities, the Indian military activated a robust and multi-layered air defence network. This included the deployment of more than 1,000 anti-aircraft guns across the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), supported by 750+ short-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems capable of engaging both UAVs and larger aerial threats.

Central to this defensive success was the Akash Tir system — a cutting-edge platform that detected, tracked, and relayed real-time information on incoming aerial targets. Integrated with the Air Force’s Integrated Aerial Command and Control System (IACCS), Akash Tir played a pivotal role in ensuring seamless communication between surveillance assets and weapon systems.

This advanced surveillance and interception grid, a result of recent technological upgrades under the Akash Tir project, ensured rapid threat identification and engagement, effectively neutralizing Pakistan’s attempt at aerial retaliation.
