IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall in Guwahati Over the Next 2–3 Days

13

Given the state’s current meteorological conditions and monsoon currents, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms across Guwahati and its adjoining areas today and over the next 2–3 days.

Continuing the trend from the early weather warning issued on July 10, 2026, the entire city and its neighboring pockets are expected to experience moderate to heavy downpours (6–12 cm within a 24-hour period). This prolonged rainfall increases the risk of:

  • Urban flooding and flash floods
  • Traffic congestion and slow vehicular movement
  • Landslides in vulnerable and low-lying areas

The District Administration and the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) are monitoring the situation closely, and emergency response teams have been placed on high alert.

ASDMA Issues Advisory for Citizens and Workplaces

In light of these conditions, the ASDMA has urged all residents of Guwahati to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant:

  • Avoid Unnecessary Travel: Daily commuters and long-distance travelers are advised to skip non-essential travel during heavy spells and plan their schedules accordingly.
  • High-Risk Areas: Residents living in low-lying or hilly terrains should stay alert for early signs of flooding or landslides.
  • Early Release for Employees: ASDMA has also requested local authorities and workplaces to consider letting their staff leave early for home, keeping the severe weather in mind.

Stay Updated

The ASDMA will provide real-time situational updates on its official website at asdma.assam.gov.in and across all its official social media handles. Citizens are strongly encouraged to track these official weather updates and strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by local authorities to ensure safety during this spell of continuous rain.
