Guwahati, August 14 (NKTV): The chief minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today laid the foundation stone of ‘Nature Park’ at the campus of Assam Khadi & Village Industries Board at Hengrabari in Guwahati.

The park would be built by GMDA on a plot of more than 14 bighas for a total cost of Rs. 11.93 crore. There would be a watch tower, cafeteria, children’s playing area, meditation centre, nursery etc. in the park. The Project is expected to be completed within one year.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that park would provide ample recreational opportunities to the residents of the area while fulfilling the requirement of open space in the city for all sections of people. He also informed that the works would soon start for setting up Botanical Garden at the old jail campus at Fancy Bazaar while another park is being built at Maligaon Housing Board site. He said Guwahati would be a city with lots of breathing spaces in the near future and informed about plans to set up a park at Chandmari on 26 bigha plot by shifting the Irrigation and Water Resource Department buildings to Dispur.

He said that steps would be taken to free lands from encroachers at Srishti Nagar, Amchung etc. The present state government is taking all steps to preserve the open spaces, habitat of wild animals, natural water bodies in and around Guwahati and other parts of the state so that people in urban townships can also live close to nature, he said.

The Chief Minister also apprised the audience about the State Government’s decisions to abolish the system of seeking DC permission for purchase of new flats, step to launch a new web portal by GMC where trade license can be applied and received by paying fee online without coming to GMC office etc. The flyover being constructed at Supermarket in the city is expected to be completed by Durga Puja this year and other flyover construction projects in the city are going on as per their scheduled timeframes, he informed.

GDD Minister Ashok Singhal, MP Queen Oja, Dispur MLA Atul Bora along with several other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
