Inaugurates scheme under JJM encompassing 8 Assembly Constituencies

Flow of development in Barak Valley will be relentless: CM

Adding a new momentum to the development of Barak Valley, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated and laid foundations for several projects worth Rs. 767 crore in Barak Valley today.

It may be noted that Chief Minister Dr. Sarma who is on a two-day Barak Valley tour, today visited Cachar and Hailakandi districts and inaugurated and laid foundations for a number of projects which would take the development of Barak Valley to a new height. He during his visit also inaugurated 75 schemes encompassing 18,869 beneficiaries from eight Legislative Assembly Constituencies in the region. The Chief Minister inaugurated five schemes involving a financial outlay of Rs. 229 and laid the foundations for four projects worth Rs. 538 crore.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundations for an integrated DC office of Cachar involving an outlay of Rs. 48 crore, a convention centre worth Rs. 16 crore in Silchar. The Chief Minister also laid foundations for improvement of road measuring 22 KM from Borkhola to Kalain involving Rs. 210 crore and another road from Cechabari to Hailakandi measuring 24 KM involving Rs. 264 crore. On the otherhand Chief Minister also inaugurated three bridges over the Barak river and unveiled a statue of Lachit Borphukan at the premises of DC office Cachar. He also unveiled a statue of Bharat Ratna Atal Behari Vajpayee in Hailakandi.

Speaking at a public meeting held at DSA field at Silchar, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that for promoting the transportation of Barak Valley along with development of other sectors, government is giving top priority. The Chief Minister on the occasion announced that another bridge will be constructed at Silghat. He said that the three bridges that he inaugurated will not only improve the transportation of the region, they will bring about overall development of Barak Valley. Stating the inauguration of the piped water schemes in Barak Valley today, the Chief Minister said that the scheme will facilitate supplying pure drinking water to the people. He also said that close to the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, State government has taken steps to implement Jal Jeevan Mission in the state very assiduously. He also said that as long as Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains in power, development of Barak Valley will flow unrelentingly. He also said that the Cancer Care Institute will be dedicated to the people of Barak Valley in the coming December-January.

Transport etc Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, PHE etc Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, MP Kripanath Malla, MLAs Mihir Kanti Shome, Kaushik Rai, Bijay Malakar, Krishnandu Paul, Dipayan Chakraborty, Karim Uddin Barbhuiya and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Later, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma visited Hailakandi district and addressed a public rally held at DSA field. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that the development of Assam took shape during the time of Atal Behari Vajpayee when he was the Prime Minister. He said that for the development of Hailakandi district, State government has taken a series of steps. He also said that for solving drinking water problem in Hailakandi, State government to take up a scheme worth Rs. 60 crore. He said that a similar project will also be taken at Lala. He also said that Rs. 200 crore will be spent for the development of roads in Hailakandi district. He said that for the development of district library at Hailakandi and the stadium, State government to spend Rs. 20 crore that is Rs. 10 crore for each project.
