British PM Boris Johnson cancels his visit to India amid Covid-19 surge

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has cancelled his visit to India in the wake of the coronavirus situation in the country. Boris Johnson was scheduled to visit India next week.

A joint statement issued by the British and Indian government stated, “In the light of the current coronavirus situation, Prime Minister Boris Johnson will not be able to travel to India next week.”

The Indian Minister of External Affairs further said, “The two sides will be holding a virtual meeting in the coming days to launch plans for a transformed India-UK relationship.”

India has been invited by Britain to attend the G7 summit, which it will be hosting in June 2021. India, on Sunday, reported 2.73 lakh fresh cases with 1,619 deaths.
