Add’l Secy to PM delves witnesses Transformative Role of Women SHGs of Assam under DAY-NULM

In pursuit of gaining a comprehensive understanding of the operational dynamics of Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the Social Mobilization and Institution Development (SM & ID) component of DAY-NULM, Shri Hari Ranjan Rao, IAS, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister, undertook a visit to Guwahati, Assam on November 20th and 21st, 2023.

During his visit, Shri Hari Ranjan Rao meticulously inspected the Aalodan Area Level Federation, a federation comprising 20 SHGs, the Ishwari Incense Stick Production Unit operated by 5 SHGs, and the Prayash SHG in Guwahati. The Additional Secretary actively engaged with SHG members, gaining firsthand insights into their activities and the impact on their lives.

In addition to the SHG-focused visits, Shri Hari Ranjan Rao also paid a visit to the Shelter for Urban Homeless (SUH) in Guwahati. The SUH, managed collaboratively by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation and the Indian Council of Child Welfare (ICCW), provides shelter for males with a capacity of 20. During the visit, the Additional Secretary interacted with sixteen inmates, predominantly aged above 60, some grappling with health ailments.

Accompanying the Additional Secretary were senior officials, including Kavitha Padmanabhan, IAS Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Housing & Urban Affairs, Megh Nidhi Dahal, IAS Commissioner, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, and Panchami Choudhury, ACS SMD, DAY-NULM, Assam, among others from the State Mission Office & CMMU, Guwahati Municipal Corporation.

Earlier in the program, the Additional Secretary visited Baska and Nalbari districts for a comprehensive review of Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra and PMSVA Nidhi, with the State Mission Director, DAY-NULM, Assam accompanying him.

Expressing his satisfaction with the functioning of Women Self Help Groups (SHGs), the Additional Secretary commended the efforts of DAY-NULM, Assam, acknowledging the organization’s dedication and impactful work in the realm of social mobilization and institution development.
