The United States has once again been accused of carrying out attacks on Iran after multiple explosions were reported on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday. The blasts were reportedly heard from several kilometres away, triggering fresh tensions in the region.
The incident comes days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to launch fresh military operations against Tehran, adding to concerns over escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Over the past few weeks, the United States has reportedly carried out several strikes at different locations in Iran. Washington has described these operations as “limited strikes”.
According to a report by News Agency, the US military has deliberately maintained secrecy around these operations to prevent Iran from anticipating any potential large-scale attacks in the future.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump recently held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The two leaders reportedly discussed the possibility of a deal between Washington and Tehran, as well as the prospect of fresh military action against Iran. Netanyahu is said to have urged Trump to launch another attack on the country.
However, speaking to reporters on Monday, Trump said he had not yet made a final decision on whether to launch further strikes against Iran. He also indicated that diplomatic negotiations between the two countries remained a possibility.
On the other hand, US Vice President JD Vance said on Monday that Washington and Tehran could still reach an agreement. He added that a deal could reduce the possibility of renewed military conflict between the two countries.
Reports also suggest that Vance had sent a letter to Iran’s security chief, Mohsen Rezaei. However, the White House has not disclosed the contents of the letter.
Trump later clarified that the communication was related to discussions on medical supplies and several other matters.
