Myanmar Military Airstrikes Kill 25, Including Newborn Baby; Maternity Clinic and School Hit

10

At least 15 people, including a newborn baby, have been killed in Myanmar military airstrikes targeting several locations over the weekend. A maternity clinic in Rakhine State and a school in Kayah State were among the sites hit.

According to reports, Sunday’s airstrikes in Rakhine State killed at least 12 people and injured 32 others. A week-old baby girl was among the victims after the maternity facility collapsed in the bombing. Her twin sister survived.

A separate airstrike on a school in Loikaw on Saturday killed three students and injured five others while classes were underway, the Karenni Human Rights Group said.

The attacks come amid escalating fighting between Myanmar’s military and resistance groups. The country has been witnessing a civil war since the 2021 military coup, which the United Nations estimates has killed around 100,000 people and displaced more than 3.5 million.

The latest strikes have raised fresh concerns over the safety of civilians, particularly children and healthcare facilities.
