Allegations of an international human trafficking racket operating in Juria in Assam’s Nagaon district have once again sparked concern. A complaint has been lodged at Juria Police Station against Imran Ali of Kasharigaon and Sabikun Nehar of Dalnijuria for their alleged involvement in the racket.
According to the complaint, the alleged racket targets innocent young women from the northern parts of Nagaon district by luring them with promises of a better life and false assurances of a bright future abroad. The accused are alleged to arrange passports within just 48 hours and send the women to Mumbai before trafficking them to foreign countries through agents in exchange for amounts ranging from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
In the latest case, the family of Jaharun Nessa, the 24-year-old daughter of Narjul Haque of Kadamoni Town village, has alleged that she was sent to Oman without the knowledge of her family after being befriended on Instagram.
According to the family, the young woman was allegedly subjected to physical and mental abuse after reaching Oman. The family has further alleged that members of the racket demanded Rs 1.20 lakh to facilitate her rescue and return home.
Seeking justice and the safe return of their daughter, the victim’s family has lodged a complaint at Juria Police Station. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the alleged trafficking network and its activities in the region.
It is learnt that multiple complaints have previously been lodged against the alleged racket at different police stations. However, details regarding the outcome of those complaints and the action taken by the authorities remain unclear.
All eyes are now on Juria Police to see what action it takes based on the latest complaint and what steps are initiated to ensure the safe rescue and return of the young woman allegedly stranded in Oman.
