India is set to host the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi on October 26 and 27, bringing together parliamentary leaders from 21 member and partner countries to discuss global challenges, strengthen legislative cooperation and promote people-centric development.

The forum will be held at the Central Hall and Library Hall of the Parliament complex under the theme, “Fostering Parliaments for People-Centric Development”. Representatives from all 11 member countries and 10 partner countries are expected to participate in the two-day event.

The discussions will focus on strengthening institutional resilience, the ethical use of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, reforming global governance, sustainability, parliamentary diplomacy and capacity-building. The forum is also expected to adopt a joint declaration reflecting the key issues discussed during the meeting.

Parliament Complex to Host Key Sessions

The Central Hall and Library Hall will serve as the principal venues for the forum. The Library Hall, formerly known as the Chamber of Princes, was previously used as a reading room for Members of Parliament. It is currently being refurbished for the BRICS Speakers’ Summit and is set to host an international event for the first time.

The programme will also include guided visits to the Parliament complex, along with visits to New Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, offering delegates an opportunity to experience India’s parliamentary heritage and cultural diversity.

Om Birla to Chair Inaugural Session

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will chair the inaugural session and deliver the valedictory address. His office has also arranged bilateral meetings with parliamentary counterparts from participating countries to strengthen cooperation and facilitate discussions on shared priorities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to interact with the delegates, while Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan will host a banquet for the visiting parliamentary leaders.

Union ministers, Members of Parliament, state-level presiding officers and international parliamentary representatives are also expected to attend the event.

Culture and Cooperation on the Agenda

Beyond formal discussions, the programme will feature cultural performances and a Culture Bazar showcasing artisans from several Indian states. These activities are intended to highlight India’s cultural diversity while encouraging interaction among the visiting delegations.

The forum is expected to provide a platform for parliamentary leaders to exchange ideas, build stronger institutional partnerships and explore ways to make legislative institutions more responsive to public needs.

Through discussions on technology, sustainability and global governance, the meeting aims to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and advance the broader goal of people-centred development.
