With Vijaya Dashami to be celebrated tomorrow, preparations are in full swing at various immersion ghats across Guwahati for the immersion of Goddess Durga idols. Pandu, Kashmari, Chunshali and Lachit Ghat are gearing up for the immersion ceremonies, with the administration and concerned authorities making arrangements to ensure safety and maintain law and order.

Extensive preparations are underway at Lachit Ghat, where idols from around 600 puja pandals are expected to be immersed. Considering the large number of idols, the administration has stepped up arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the immersion process.

To prevent any untoward incidents, personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) will be deployed at the ghat. Guwahati Police personnel and officers will also be on duty to maintain security and manage the crowd.

The authorities are focusing on crowd management, public safety and maintaining order throughout the immersion process.

Preparations are also underway at Pandu Ghat, where Durga idol immersion will take place over two days, Wednesday and Thursday. Arrangements have been made for the immersion of idols from around 150 puja pandals.

In an initiative to encourage puja committees to maintain peace and discipline during the immersion process, cash prizes have been announced for committees that uphold law and order.

The first prize will carry 1 lakh, the second prize 75,000 and the third prize 50,000.

Cash prizes have also been announced for the best dhakis (traditional drum players). The first prize will be 1 lakh, followed by 75,000 for the second prize and 50,000 for the third prize.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is also expected to visit Pandu Ghat with his family tomorrow.

Preparations for the immersion ceremonies are also progressing at Kashmari and Chunshali Ghats. At Chunshali Ghat, the administration is making extensive arrangements to facilitate the smooth and safe immersion of idols.

The concerned authorities are taking steps to ensure that the ceremonies are conducted in an orderly manner and that devotees can participate safely.

With large crowds expected at the city’s immersion ghats on Vijaya Dashami, security arrangements have been given special attention. The deployment of NDRF, SDRF and Guwahati Police personnel at Lachit Ghat is expected to play a key role in managing the large gathering.

As the Durga Puja festivities draw to a close, Guwahati is preparing to bid farewell to Goddess Durga with the aim of ensuring a peaceful, orderly and safe immersion process across the city.
