IPL Auction Returns to India After Four Years, Goa Likely to Host 2027 Mini-Auction: Sources
The IPL 2027 auction is likely to be held at the ITC Grand Goa on December 16, according to sources if confirmed, the event will return to India after four years, following three consecutive overseas auctions in Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi.
The upcoming auction is expected to be a mini-auction, allowing franchises to retain most of their existing squads while strengthening their teams through selected signings.
Earlier this year, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said the BCCI had consistently tried to organise auctions in India, but logistical challenges had forced the board to hold the previous editions overseas.
“Every year we try for this to happen in India, but we don’t get the venue given the heavy marriage season. So, we definitely want it to be here this year, given that it would be a smaller auction and hopefully we will get the venue,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had said.
The BCCI’s logistics team has informed all 10 franchises about the proposed date and venue. However, an official announcement is still awaited.
The communication was reportedly sent to help franchises make travel arrangements and complete other logistical preparations ahead of the Goa auction.
Interestingly, India are also scheduled to face Sri Lanka in an ODI in Bengaluru on December 16.
Several significant player trades have already taken place ahead of the upcoming deadline as franchises begin reshaping their squads for IPL 2027.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has returned to Delhi Capitals from Lucknow Super Giants, while left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav is reportedly moving in the opposite direction.
Meanwhile, pacer T Natarajan has returned to Sunrisers Hyderabad in a direct trade from Delhi Capitals. The Delhi-based franchise has brought spinner Zeeshan Ansari into its squad.
With the mini-auction approaching, franchises will look to finalise their retention plans and identify key players who can strengthen their squads for the 2027 season.
