Inspired by ‘Drishyam 3’? Two Teenagers Accused of Killing Classmate Over Gold Chain to Fund Birthday Party and Buy Bike
A shocking incident has come to light in Maharashtra’s Thane district, where two Class 12 students have been accused of murdering their 17-year-old classmate allegedly to steal his gold chain. According to police, the accused teenagers planned to sell the chain to fund a friend’s birthday party and purchase a motorcycle. They also allegedly attempted to burn the victim’s body to destroy evidence.
According to police sources, the two accused, residents of Azad Nagar in Thane, allegedly planned to steal the victim’s gold chain weighing approximately seven grams and valued at around 1 lakh. They reportedly intended to use the money from the sale of the chain to pay for a birthday party and buy a motorcycle.
Following an investigation, Kasarvadavali Police arrested both minor accused. A case has been registered against them under Sections 103(1) (murder) and 238 (causing the disappearance of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police, the 17-year-old boy left his home at around 7 pm on September 24 but did not return. The following day, his father approached the police, after which a missing-person investigation was initiated and a kidnapping case was registered.
During the initial investigation, one of the accused allegedly told the police and the victim’s family that he had seen the boy travelling on a white Activa scooter with an unidentified young man on a road opposite Brahmand Circle.
Police suspect that the accused attempted to avoid suspicion by pretending to express concern and grief over the boy’s disappearance.
As part of the search operation, investigators examined footage from approximately 80 to 90 CCTV cameras. However, they initially failed to find any significant clues about the missing teenager.
As the investigation progressed, suspicion turned towards the two classmates, with police believing that they had concealed crucial information about the incident. Investigators subsequently analysed their mobile phone data and questioned them again.
According to police, during further questioning on Thursday, one of the accused allegedly confessed to the crime. Based on the information provided, investigators were able to locate the place where the victim’s body had been disposed of.
Police sources further claimed that the two teenagers had recently watched Ajay Devgn’s suspense thriller Drishyam 3. Investigators suspect that the film may have inspired their alleged crime plan and attempts to mislead the police.
The shocking incident has triggered widespread concern in the area. Police said the investigation is continuing to establish all the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder.
