CJP Founder Abhijeet Dipke Under Preventive Arrest, AISA Chief Neha Bora Released After Delhi Protests

Delhi Police has placed Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke under preventive arrest and released All India Students’ Association (AISA) chief Neha Bora early Saturday morning, following their detention ahead of the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest march at Connaught Place on Friday.

Dipke was arrested under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in connection with apprehensions of a breach of peace. He is scheduled to be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court later on Saturday.

Bora was released after the authorities completed the required detention formalities under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act.

CJP legal head Ratna Singh alleged that Dipke’s whereabouts remained unknown and that lawyers had not been allowed to meet him.

“Abhijeet is arrested and will be produced before the SEM court. His location is still unknown, and lawyers haven’t met him,” Singh wrote in a post on X.

On Friday, CJP and AISA had expressed concern over the whereabouts of their leaders after they were detained while on their way to participate in the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest.

CJP alleged that Dipke had been taken to an undisclosed location and that the party had lost contact with him. The organisation also claimed that he was not being allowed to speak to lawyers.

Meanwhile, AISA alleged that Bora had been held alone at the Anti-Narcotics Task Force facility in Mangolpuri.

After her release, Bora accused the authorities of detaining protesters without valid reasons and keeping them in custody for hours. She alleged that such actions were being used to instil fear among ordinary citizens.

“For a very long time in this country, people have been detained without any valid reason and made to sit in custody for hours,” Bora said.

She added that such incidents had become increasingly apparent during the ongoing movement, claiming that protesters were frequently detained and released only the following morning or evening.

Bora said her own detention had given her a clearer understanding of why such actions were being carried out and how they could create fear among ordinary citizens.

Bora demanded the immediate release of Dipke and all other protesters who, she alleged, had been unlawfully detained.

“Abhijeet should be released. I wasn’t even aware he had been detained. All other protesters who have been illegally detained should also be released immediately,” she said.

She maintained that the protesters were ordinary citizens seeking accountability and the right to vote, and questioned the justification for keeping them at police stations overnight.

The developments have triggered concerns among the two organisations over the treatment of protesters and their access to legal assistance following preventive detention.

Dipke is expected to appear before the Special Executive Magistrate’s court, while Bora has been released after completion of the required formalities.
