Police have seized a large quantity of banned yaba tablets in Assam’s Hailakandi district. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted an operation in the Bauroghat area and seized 816.9 grams of yaba tablets valued at around Rs 60 lakh, while arresting two persons.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Bahaarul Alam Majumdar (28) and Sayekh Husein Laskar (25), both residents of Vichingsa village. During the operation, police also seized three mobile phones and a Bolero vehicle.
According to police, one of the arrested persons is a restaurant owner, while the other is a government employee. An investigation is underway to determine the source of the seized yaba and whether a larger drug network is involved.
The seizure comes amid intensified operations by police and other security agencies against the illegal drug trade in Hailakandi district in recent days. The recovery of such a large quantity of yaba in Bauroghat has once again brought the issue of drug trafficking in the district into focus.
