Assam Revises Tea Industry Incentives, Extends Scheme Till 2031

52

The Assam government has revised its tea industry incentive scheme, introducing new export benefits and increasing subsidies to support tea producers.

Under the revised Assam Tea Industries Special Incentives Scheme (ATISIS), 2020, exporters of eligible Single Origin Assam Quality CTC Tea will receive an incentive of ₹3 per kg. The move aims to offset higher transportation and handling costs faced by Assam’s tea industry.

The subsidy for Orthodox and speciality tea production has also been increased from ₹10 to ₹15 per kg, while Matcha tea has been included under the scheme. The working capital interest subsidy has been raised from ₹15 lakh to ₹20 lakh.

The revised scheme, welcomed by the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC), recognises eligible CTC tea sold through its auction system for the export incentive.

The scheme has been extended until March 31, 2031. GTAC said the changes could encourage more tea traders to use organised auctions and strengthen Assam’s competitiveness in domestic and international markets.
