In a social media post, Simanta Shekhar expressed his respect and admiration for Zubeen Garg and said:

“Honourable MLA, first study Zubeen Garg properly. Try to understand his music, contributions and his place in Assam’s society and culture. Only then should you come before the media and make comments.

You may belong to the BJP, and that is your political identity. But that does not mean we have to support any ignorant or thoughtless remarks made about a legend like Zubeen Garg.

Our culture, our emotions and our respect for our artists are above politics. At least maintain that respect when speaking about Zubeen Da.”

While speaking at a tribute programme held at Fancy Bazar in Guwahati as part of Zubeen Divas, BJP MLA Vijay Kumar Gupta claimed that Zubeen Garg had sung 3,000 songs in 40 languages. He also said that Zubeen Garg had made a film titled “China Mission.”

However, Zubeen Garg’s film, released in 2017, was titled “Mission China.” Meanwhile, “Anamika”, released in 1992, was his first album.
