Pak Ship Collides With Indian Navy Unit in International Waters

4

India has lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over a collision between an Indian Navy vessel and a Pakistan Navy vessel in international waters. Following the incident, New Delhi summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission and described the conduct of the Pakistani naval vessel as “unacceptable and unprofessional.”

According to a statement issued by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), no major damage was reported in the incident. However, New Delhi said the conduct of the Pakistani naval vessel was a direct violation of Article 10 of the 1991 Agreement between India and Pakistan on Advance Notice of Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troop Movements.

The MEA asked Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires to raise the matter with the concerned Pakistani authorities. India also stressed the need for both countries to comply with the provisions of relevant bilateral agreements and for military units to exercise due caution at sea.

India has called on all military units to strictly adhere to the provisions of the relevant agreements and prescribed safety protocols to prevent such incidents from occurring again.

Meanwhile, India’s Chargé d’Affaires in Islamabad has also been instructed to lodge a similar protest with Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the MEA said.
