India in Touch With Russia, Ukraine, Ready to Help End War: Jaishankar

India is in continuous contact with both Russia and Ukraine and is exploring possible ideas and suggestions that could help reduce tensions and bring the ongoing conflict to an end, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said.

Addressing a joint press conference with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski in Warsaw, Jaishankar reiterated India’s position that an “Endless War” must eventually give way to an end to the war.

He stressed that wars have no real winners, as they result in loss of life, destruction and rising costs for the global community. India, he said, believes that dialogue and diplomacy should remain at the centre of efforts to resolve the conflict.

“India is committed to doing whatever it can” to help bring the war to an end, Jaishankar said.

Jaishankar arrived in Poland after a visit to Ukraine, where he held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in Kyiv.

During his discussions with the Polish leadership, Jaishankar also addressed broader global challenges, including supply chain resilience and food, fuel and fertiliser security.

The two sides reviewed progress under the Joint Action Plan 2024-28, which focuses on strengthening cooperation in trade and investment, defence, culture and multilateral affairs.

Jaishankar also met Polish President Karol Nawrocki and discussed India-Poland Strategic Partnership, besides exchanging views on the Ukraine conflict and the situation in West Asia.

During his visit to Kyiv, Jaishankar had said that India was ready to extend assistance in any manner that could contribute to ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

Following his meeting with Jaishankar, President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to India for its commitment to efforts aimed at bringing the conflict to an end.
