15-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Makes History as East Zone Captain
Vaibhav Suryavanshi reached a new milestone at just 15 years of age as he took charge of the East Zone team during their Duleep Trophy semi-final against Central Zone in Bengaluru.
Suryavanshi, who was appointed vice-captain before the tournament, stepped into the captaincy after regular skipper Ishan Kishan suffered a wrist injury while keeping wickets.
Kishan was hit on his right wrist during the 19th over and had to leave the field for further medical assessment. Kumar Kushagra took over the wicketkeeping duties, while Suryavanshi was handed the captaincy.
The move marks a remarkable achievement for the teenager, who is leading a senior First-Class side at only 15.
Having made his First-Class debut in early 2024, Suryavanshi is playing just his second Duleep Trophy match and his 10th First-Class game overall.
