Raksha Bandhan: PM Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh Extend Greetings, Celebrate Bond of Love and Trust
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended greetings to the people on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and wished that the bond of love, affection and mutual trust symbolised by the festival remains forever unbreakable.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Heartfelt wishes on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. May this sacred festival bring happiness, prosperity, and success into all your lives. May the bond of love, affection, and mutual trust remain forever unbreakable – that is my heartfelt wish.”
PM Modi also shared some memorable moments from the Raksha Bandhan celebrations at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. He wished that the festival further deepens the bonds of affection and harmony among people and bring happiness, prosperity and joy to everyone.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam highlighting the auspicious power and blessings of Raksha (the protective bond/thread).
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his greetings to fellow countrymen on the sacred festival, which he said is dedicated to the unbreakable love and trust between brothers and sisters.
“Heartfelt greetings to all fellow countrymen on the sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan, dedicated to the unbreakable love and trust between brothers and sisters. May this festival bring happiness, peace, and prosperity into everyone’s lives,” HM Shah said in a post on X.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described Raksha Bandhan as a reflection of India’s rich cultural heritage and values while extending his greetings.
“Heartfelt greetings on the sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan. This festival, embodying the unbreakable affection, mutual trust, and deep bond between brother and sister, beautifully reflects our rich cultural heritage and values,” Singh said.
He added that the festival also inspires people to remain committed to the honour, safety and dignity of women.
“On this auspicious occasion, I wish that our society becomes even more vigilant and sensitive towards the respect, self-respect, and empowerment of women,” he said.
BJP National President Nitin Nabin also greeted people on the occasion, saying the festival reinforces cultural values and familial bonds.
“Heartfelt greetings to all fellow citizens on the sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan. This festival, embodying the affection, trust, and vow of protection between siblings, further strengthens our cultural values and familial bonds. May this sacred occasion bring love, joy, and prosperity into everyone’s lives—that is our heartfelt wish,” Nabin said.
Raksha Bandhan symbolises the bond of love, affection and protection between brothers and sisters. As part of the traditional celebrations, sisters tie colourful rakhis around their brothers’ wrists after applying tilak on their foreheads and pray for their health, happiness and prosperity. Brothers, in turn, express their affection by offering gifts and reaffirming their commitment to support their sisters through life’s challenges.
The festival is observed annually on Purnima, the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravana, which generally falls in August. This year, Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated on Friday.
Families also mark the occasion by exchanging sweets, gifts and greetings. The festival is primarily celebrated in India and Nepal.
