ASDMA Issues Advisory as IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall and Flash Flood Risks Across Guwahati
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has urged residents of Guwahati and surrounding districts to remain on high alert following a moderate to heavy rainfall forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the IMD update, the ongoing monsoon conditions are expected to bring localized heavy rainfall (7–11 cm within 24 hours) along with thunderstorms to isolated parts of Guwahati and several districts over the next 3 to 4 days.
Key Risks Identified
Disaster management officials warned that the prolonged wet spell could lead to severe urban disruptions:
- Urban Flooding & Waterlogging: Low-lying pockets are susceptible to flash floods and waterlogging.
- Landslides: Hillside residents face an increased risk of localized landslides due to ground saturation.
- Commute Delays: Traffic and vehicular movement are expected to slow down significantly across major arterial routes.
