Ahead of the inaugural Assam Premier League, Riyan Parag has told the state’s cricketers that the tournament is a proving ground and not a local competition. “This isn’t just another tournament. Scouts, franchises and people from across the country will be keeping an eye on you and this league,” he said. He was clear about what earns attention beyond ability. “Talent is expected, what stands out is your attitude, your discipline and the way you compete,” he said, adding that players should respect the game, respect their teammates and play the right way. For anyone hoping to move into bigger leagues, his advice was simple’ “This is where you start proving that you belong”
The APL auction takes place on 19 July, with the season beginning on 1 August at the ACA Stadium, Barsapara. The auction sets the squads for the league’s first edition, and for many uncapped Assam players it is the first time franchise scouts will bid for them in an open room.
