The Assam Government has intensified its crackdown against illegal sawmills and timber-related activities, with 8 more illegal band sawmills seized on July 7, taking the total number of seizures to 212 over the last seven days.
According to the latest data released by the Forest Department, the day’s action was carried out across the state’s forest circles as follows:
- Northern Assam Circle:3 illegal sawmills seized
- Nagaon South Division – 1
- Nagaon Division – 2
- Eastern Assam Circle:2 illegal sawmills seized
- Sivasagar Division – 1
- Dibrugarh Division – 1
- Lower Assam Zone:3 illegal sawmills seized
- North Kamrup Division – 2
- Hailakandi Division – 1

Forest, Environment & Mines Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah reiterated the government’s firm commitment to protecting Assam’s forests, stating that the crackdown against illegal sawmills and timber operations will continue without interruption.
“The crackdown against illegal sawmills and timber continues. Another 8 illegal operations were seized today, taking the total to 212 in the last seven days. Our commitment to protecting Assam’s forests remains unwavering.”
