ACS Officer Lachit Kumar Das Caught Red-Handed Taking Bribe

In a major anti-corruption operation, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam, trapped and arrested ACS officer Lachit Kumar Das, Additional Director of Land Records, for allegedly accepting a bribe.

According to official sources, the officer had allegedly demanded ₹1 lakh from a complainant in connection with issuing an NOC for land sale permission. Refusing to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Directorate seeking legal action.

Acting on the complaint, a trap operation was conducted on May 21, 2026, at the Directorate of Land Records office in Rupnagar, Guwahati. Lachit Kumar Das was reportedly caught red-handed immediately after accepting ₹45,000 as part of the demanded bribe amount.

The tainted money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses and seized accordingly.

A case has been registered at ACB Police Station under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (amended in 2018). The accused officer has been arrested, and further legal proceedings are underway.
