Badruddin Ajmal Predicts Debabrata Saikia as BJP Candidate in Nagaon By-Poll

AIUDF chief and newly elected MLA Badruddin Ajmal has claimed that Congress leader Debabrata Saikia will be the BJP candidate in the upcoming by-election in Nagaon.

Speaking to the media, Ajmal said, “Even though the by-election is some time away, the BJP has already started brainstorming and is likely to field Debabrata Saikia from Nagaon.”

On the issue of the Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Ajmal said the decision would depend on the Speaker. He suggested that Congress should appoint Joyprakash Das as the Leader of Opposition, otherwise “Congress will turn into a Muslim League.”

He further remarked that this time in the Assembly, AIUDF will play a strong and effective role. The party will strongly oppose the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

Ajmal also informed that he will leave for Haj on 21st May and will not be present during the first session of the Assembly. He has already written to the Secretary of the Assam Legislative Assembly regarding his absence. He is expected to take oath as MLA after returning from Haj, around 15 days later.

This statement by Badruddin Ajmal comes ahead of the first session of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly, which is scheduled to begin on 21st May.
