Chandramohan Patowary Takes Oath as Pro-tem Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly
Senior BJP leader Chandramohan Patowary today took oath as the Pro-tem Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
The oath was administered by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Lok Bhavan.
As per constitutional provisions, the Pro-tem Speaker will preside over the proceedings of the Assembly until the regular Speaker is elected.
The first session of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly is scheduled to begin on 21st May and will continue for four days. On the first day, the Pro-tem Speaker will administer the oath of office to all newly elected MLAs.
This is a standard procedural step to facilitate the smooth commencement of the new Legislative Assembly.
