Notorious Drug Mafia Killed in Police Encounter in Cachar
In a swift operation, Jirighat Police in Cachar district shot dead a notorious drug mafia member during an encounter.
The deceased was wanted in connection with the May 6 incident in which a police jawan was injured in a shootout by drug smugglers near the Assam-Manipur border.
Following the attack on the policeman, Cachar Police launched an intensive manhunt. Today, police zeroed in on one of the accused involved in the earlier incident.
As police tried to apprehend him, the drug mafia opened fire and attempted to flee. In retaliation, police fired back, resulting in his death.
This encounter is being seen as a major success in the ongoing crackdown against drug smuggling networks operating along the Assam-Manipur border. Further investigation is underway.
