The Election Commission Nepal said on Thursday that voting was taking place smoothly across the country, with no polling centre reporting a serious obstruction in the process so far.

Providing an update on the latest polling situation, Janaki Kumari Tuladhar, an election commissioner, said that the polling has been taking place in a peaceful, free and enthusiastic environment at all voting centres nationwide.

She noted that voting had not been suspended at any polling station and that the process was operating normally everywhere.

Speaking about security arrangements and the overall management of polling stations, Tuladhar said extensive preparations had been made to ensure safety during the election.

She added that the environment at polling centres remained calm and free of fear, and that election management had been carried out effectively.

Across the country, voters are electing 165 members of the House of Representatives under the first-past-the-post system and 110 members under the proportional representation system. A total of 65 political parties are contesting the direct elections across 61 election symbols.
