Ola, Uber, Rapido drivers to go offline on February 7

Ola, Uber, and Rapido drivers have called for a nationwide strike on Saturday, February 7, dubbed the ‘All India Breakdown’. The app-based transport workers are expected to go offline for about six hours, demanding government intervention to enforce minimum fares in the sector.

The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU), leading the strike, has accused ride-hailing platforms of arbitrarily setting fares, despite the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025.

The union is seeking notification of minimum base fares and a ban on the misuse of private vehicles for commercial rides.

Announcing the move on X on Wednesday, the union said, “App-based transport workers across India will observe an All India Breakdown on 7 Feb 26. No minimum fares. No regulation. Endless exploitation. Govt must act NOW. Millions of app-based drivers are pushed into poverty while aggregators profit. Govt silence = platform impunity.”

Earlier, the TGPWU shared a statement on X and appealed to the government for the immediate notification of government-mandated minimum base fares for aggregators such as Ola, Uber, Rapido, and Porter.

“In the absence of government-regulated fare structures, aggregator companies continue to unilaterally fix fares, leading to severe income insecurity, exploitation, and unsustainable working conditions for millions of transport workers,” the statement read.

The union further said, “As a mark of protest against continued policy inaction and to assert our legitimate demands, app-based transport workers across the country will observe an All-India Breakdown on 7 February 2026.”

In the statement, the TGPWU further urged the authorities to treat their grievances with seriousness and initiate immediate dialogue with worker representatives. Their goal is to move toward a fair, lawful, and sustainable regulation of the app-based transport sector.

Here are the key demands:

Minimum Base Fares: Immediate notification of minimum base fares for app-based transport services (autos, cabs, bike taxis, and other aggregator-based services), to be finalised in consultation with recognised driver and worker unions, in line with the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025.

Ban on Private Vehicles: Strict prohibition on using private (non-commercial) vehicles for commercial passenger and goods transport.
