Rahul Gandhi Pays Tribute to Late Zubeen Garg, Calls for Transparent Probe into His Demise

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi today visited the cremation site of the late musical icon Zubeen Garg at Sonapur in Guwahati to pay his respects and attend prayer services. Later he visited to offer his condolences to the bereaved family of Zubeen Garg at their residence.

Speaking to the media in Guwahati, Rahul Gandhi reflected emotionally on Zubeen Garg’s legacy and character, drawing a heartfelt parallel between the artist and Mount Kanchenjunga.

“When I was 17 years old, I went for a mountaineering course in Sikkim. Every day during training, I would see Mount Kanchenjunga — honest, transparent, unshakable, and beautiful. Today, when Gaurav ji told me that Zubeen ji once said he was Kanchenjunga, it immediately connected with me — because he truly had those qualities,” Gandhi said.

He further expressed deep gratitude to Zubeen Garg’s parents, acknowledging their role in shaping a voice that represented the soul of Assam. “I told Zubeen ji’s father that his wisdom and support built him, gave a voice to this wonderful state. We thank his entire family, and of course, Zubeen Garg, for what he has done not just for Assam but for the entire country,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi also conveyed the sentiments of the grieving family, saying they had one simple appeal — for the truth to come out. “The family told me, ‘We have lost our Zubeen, and all we want is that the truth should be clear.’ It is the duty of the government to investigate quickly and transparently, and to tell the family exactly what happened in Singapore,” he emphasized.

Assuring full support to the family and the people of Assam, Gandhi said, “We are here to support them in any way possible. If there is anything we can do, we are more than happy to help. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the people of Assam. I stand with you in your grief.”

Zubeen Garg, one of Assam’s most beloved cultural icons, passed away recently in Singapore, leaving millions of fans across the country mourning his untimely demise.
